250 Years
250 Years This weekend we celebrate America’s 250th birthday as a nation. 250 years is a long time. Maybe not when compared to the age of a Bristlecone Pine or the Sierra Nevada Mountains. But for mere people, 2-1/2 centuries is impressive. Our grandmother’s birthday was also celebrated around the 4th of July. She lived through both World Wars, the Great Depression, the Korean War, Americans walking on the moon, Vietnam, the Berlin Wall coming down, the end of the Soviet Union, and the 1st Gulf War. She was a fiercely independent lady. Surely a combination of growing up in rural Nevada and all she witnessed and endured. She taught us to celebrate our freedoms, not to forget the burdens of our past, and to recognize the traditions we all share. Have a happy and safe 4th of July! Summer Oasis
Summer Oasis It’s official, we’re in Summer! The 90-degree temperatures the past couple of weeks have been indicating as much. Longer days mean more time to enjoy outdoor spaces. Walking in the neighborhood. Playing in our parks. Loading up on vitamin D, which helps with regulating our moods. And is also beneficial to our bone, muscle, and brain health. If you have a yard with a privacy fence, enjoy your Summer oasis. Add climbing vegetation, hanging pots, and lights to increase the visual ambiance. Watch family and pets play knowing they’re secure. Relax and mentally unwind from the surrounding world and traffic noise. Pictured: Tahoe Fence residential dogear redwood on steel posts in South Lake Tahoe (El Dorado County.) 2026
