1st Day Back

1st Day Back Summer is coming to an end. And another school year is about to begin. Whether you are a parent about to drop your kid off to class for the 1st time, just moved them into college, or said goodbye as they go off to boot camp, it can be a difficult time. Our children, and us as parents, can be overwhelmed with anxiety, emotions, and fear. As parents, we hope we did our part and enough to prepare our kids for the experiences ahead. We hope our kids will have and develop the self-reliance they need to succeed. Of course, we hope all goes well. And we impatiently await news of how their 1st day back went! Cheers to our kids succeeding, our fears easing, and keeping everyone safe! Pictured: Tahoe Fence Ornamental Steel School Egress Gates with Panic Hardware in Douglas County.
Dog Days

Dog Days We are in the midst of the “Dog Days” of Summer. Known as the hottest 40 days of midsummer from July 3rd to August 11th. Originally, people in ancient Greece and Rome believed the rising temperatures would make dogs go mad or rabid. Our hot and dry weather can have adverse effects toward natural wood and thinner, vinyl fences as well. A benefit of Trex and other composite materials is the ability of handling hot temperatures, without drying out, shrinking, splitting, or warping. Stay cool and keep yourself and your pets hydrated. Classic Celebration

Classic Celebration This weekend begins the 40th anniversary of “Hot August Nights.” What began as a 3-day event in Reno back in 1986, now includes Reno, Sparks, and Virginia City. It has expanded to 10-days of cruises, drag races, music, vendors, and a car auction. With more than 6000 vehicles, and 500,000 visitors, it is the largest, nostalgic car show in the country. To all those that polish, shine, take care of, and tune up their vintage vehicles, thank you for your efforts. You make this event a classic worth celebrating! Pictured: Tahoe Fence classics. Silver in the Country

Silver in the Country This weekend is the 25th Anniversary of “Night in the Country” in Yerington. Started in 2002, as a 1-night event that drew roughly 900 in attendance. The festival has grown to 3-nights of camping, country music, and nearly 10,000 attendees. About 30,000 fans come out across the area over the weekend. 300 to 600 community members and supporters help out during the festival and with preparations throughout the year. All to benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Mason Valley in Dayton, Hawthorne, Silver Springs, and Yerington. Congratulations on your Silver Anniversary! And if you plan on being in the area, please be patient with the traffic. Everyone is just trying to get to where they’re going. So, everyone can enjoy their weekend. Helping Hand
Helping Hand The anniversary of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) will be later this coming week. Unless you have a family member or know someone with cognitive, mobility, or visual needs, you probably don’t notice the helping hand that guard and safety railings provide. Their visual presence is obvious in every day, public space infrastructure. But the use of railings for balance and support, as fixed boundaries, and as fall protection, prevent accidents. And they help promote independent living and navigation. Even if you don’t think you need them, the continuous, passive protection railings offer provide stability, and something to hold on to, when the weather creates frozen, slick, and wet surfaces. Going Going Gone
Going Going Gone This weekend Babe Ruth made his debut for the Boston Red Sox in 1914. Originally starting as a pitcher, the Babe’s hitting powered a change in the design of ballparks starting in the 1920s. His powerful swing obliterated home run records. As a result, ballfields were forced to push back their fences, or increase their height, and recalculate outfield dimensions. Massive construction projects were undertaken to keep his hits from going, going, and being gone. 1923’s Yankee Stadium, the “House That Ruth Built,” was considered a modern marvel of a baseball venue. Built to hold the crowds that came to watch him play. And to showcase a right-field fence, which was designed to cater to the Babe’s left-handed hitting. 250 Years
250 Years This weekend we celebrate America’s 250th birthday as a nation. 250 years is a long time. Maybe not when compared to the age of a Bristlecone Pine or the Sierra Nevada Mountains. But for mere people, 2-1/2 centuries is impressive. Our grandmother’s birthday was also celebrated around the 4th of July. She lived through both World Wars, the Great Depression, the Korean War, Americans walking on the moon, Vietnam, the Berlin Wall coming down, the end of the Soviet Union, and the 1st Gulf War. She was a fiercely independent lady. Surely a combination of growing up in rural Nevada and all she witnessed and endured. She taught us to celebrate our freedoms, not to forget the burdens of our past, and to recognize the traditions we all share. Have a happy and safe 4th of July! Summer Oasis
Summer Oasis It’s official, we’re in Summer! The 90-degree temperatures the past couple of weeks have been indicating as much. Longer days mean more time to enjoy outdoor spaces. Walking in the neighborhood. Playing in our parks. Loading up on vitamin D, which helps with regulating our moods. And is also beneficial to our bone, muscle, and brain health. If you have a yard with a privacy fence, enjoy your Summer oasis. Add climbing vegetation, hanging pots, and lights to increase the visual ambiance. Watch family and pets play knowing they’re secure. Relax and mentally unwind from the surrounding world and traffic noise. Pictured: Tahoe Fence residential dogear redwood on steel posts in South Lake Tahoe (El Dorado County.) 2026
Yay, Dads

Yay, Dads This weekend is Father’s Day. The 1st recognized statewide Father’s Day was celebrated in 1910 in Spokane, Washington. It became a national holiday in 1972. Coincidentally, it was three dads in the state of Washington that came up with the game of Pickleball. In order to entertain their kids during the Summer of 1965, they combined a lowered badminton net, ping-pong paddles, a wiffle ball, and conceived the foundation of the game we now know as Pickleball.
