Experience and Education Being raised around ranches, dairies, and family farms, you earn your PhD quickly (Post-hole Diggers.) And growing up building fences, you learn the more you use your Post-hole Diggers (especially in rocky situations,) the hungrier you get for more promising opportunities. We were taught that if you got an education, there would always be work. And after earning those school degrees and the experiences associated with them, we found our way back to family and a craft that were (and still are) an important part of making who we are today. From all of us at Tahoe Fence, congratulations to our graduating seniors and the class of 2025, and to making the best of your experiences and education.Experience and Education

From Whiskey to Fences

From Whiskey to Fences On June 1st: In 1495, John Cor, a monk, recorded the first known batch of Scotch whiskey; In 1792, Kentucky was admitted as the 15th state into the United States of America; In 1796, Tennessee was admitted as the 16th state. In the 18th and 19th centuries Irish and Scottish distilling techniques and immigrants helped in the development of Kentucky bourbon and Tennessee whiskey. During this same time, Irish and Scottish immigrants also brought over the art of building stone dykes or rock walls (dry-stacked rock fences.) Stone removed from fields (barley fields in Scotland and corn fields in Kentucky and Tennessee) could be fashioned into mortarless rock walls. These were balanced structures of arranged stacked rocks free-standing by only their weight and friction. As more property was turned for use into growing food, the need for additional fences arose to keep animals off of the growing crops. Tahoe Fence appreciates the mastery and time that goes into making whiskey, bourbon, and dry-stack rock walls. Our patience wears thin though when we're digging rocks out of post holes, let alone having to stack them. Tahoe Fence does install rock-like molded fences. Happy Memorial Day

A gentle breeze moves Old Glory like an ocean tide across the land.

Row upon row of waving flags gesture a welcome greeting from many dear departed friends.

Our promise to remember is without end.

Astounding Ash

Astounding Ash 45 years ago this weekend, Mount St. Helens erupted. For 9 hours, ash was dispersed over an area nearly 22,000 square miles. While the damage from the eruption was devastating, including the loss of lives and properties, it produced about 540 million tons of ash. The Romans used volcanic ash from eruptions they witnessed in the making of their concrete. Some of the seawalls the Roman Empire built from this method still exist. The use of volcanic ash is being revisited by builders and engineers now in making lighter and more sustainable concrete. It's even being considered as an efficient energy storage medium for renewable power in concentrated solar power systems. What Moms Like Did you know that Mother's Day is in a month named after a female deity? Like several of our calendar months, May comes from the Roman era. It's derived from the Roman goddess responsible for Spring growth and warmth, Maia. Whether you wish your mom a Happy Mother's Day, tell her that you love them, or treat them like a goddess, these are all things moms like. Happy Mother's Day! Off The Rails

Off The Rails The week ahead has both the Kentucky Derby on Saturday and Cinco de Mayo on Monday. The Kentucky Derby, the longest held continuous sports event in America, is celebrating its 151st running. While Cinco de Mayo, which marks the Mexican army's victory over the French at the Battle of Pueblo, has been celebrated since 1862. And historically Americans like celebrating both. About 120,000 mint juleps are expected to be served at Churchill Downs over the weekend, which takes around 10,000 bottles of bourbon to make. And in 2014, it's estimated more than 335,000 gallons of tequila and mezcal were consumed by Americans on May 5th. Mother Nature Has Curves Our world isn't flat. We live and work in/and around the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Here Mother Nature has curves and angles. While you can try and dress those angles with straight fence panels, there will be some gaps underneath that show too much. And/or don't keep enough of what's important in. With certain styles of iron (steel), vinyl, wire, and wood fences though, Tahoe Fence is able to follow those contours without stepping your fence. We can even create custom styles to meet your needs. And similar to our chain link and wood fences, we are able to install a steel fence for you on either metal or wood posts. Tahoe Fence can attach your steel fence almost anywhere on Mother Nature's solid surfaces. Feeling Rejuvenated

Feeling Rejuvenated With Easter this weekend, and Earth Day this next week, we're feeling rejuvenated. An increase in sunshine isn't hurting our mood either. We've taken that invigorating spirit and applied it to one of our own garden fences. These redwood pickets were removed from a jobsite decades ago. But they're still solid and even have the original stain on them. However, an occasional picket gets destroyed when the dog, so protective of the garden, goes after a blue jay or another nuisance too aggressively. If we're fortunate enough, we can save the picket top. They get new life as garden/Easter bunnies! Growing Your Space Spring weather is here. Making it an ideal time to work in our gardens, tend to those flower beds, and grow your space to your liking. Your fence may need some tending too. It's an integral part to your yard. Not only does it make a nice backdrop for gardens and flowers, but it helps define your space. It can offer seclusion and reduce noise from the neighborhood. Fences help protect your garden or patios microclimates by buffering some of our strong winds. And they can help keep some of the wildlife around us from eating the flowers. Built For You Tahoe Fence has fabricated the majority of the gates we install over the last 50 + years. It's a specialty we're proud to continue still today. What we are unable to create ourselves, we have custom-made for our customers. The end result is always with the same goal in mind, gates built for you. Like this Tahoe Fence created bottom-track cantilever slide gate. Our customer needed a gate to secure this opening. When open the gate is to be hidden behind the masonry wall. The difficulty is that the return is only a few feet longer than the gate. By building a bottom-track cantilever, Tahoe Fence made a gate that fit, and that was built right for our customer.
