It’s Only Fitting

This weekend we celebrate Memorial Day, which originally started out as Decoration Day. It began as a way to remember and honor those that died fighting America’s Civil War.

But people raised in the South will tell you there was nothing civil about brother fighting brother. Instead, they refer to it as the War Between the States.

Memorial Day has become a day we remember and celebrate all our fallen American soldiers. It’s only fitting that we personally celebrate it visiting the graves of our departed family and friends, cleaning and then decorating their sites with flowers.

However you spend your weekend, Happy Memorial Day.

And thank you to those that served and their families for all their sacrifices.

Oops, Think We Walked on Your Fence

Oops, think we walked on your fence. Actually, had to in order to get the measurements for the repair. Fairly confident we didn’t damage it further.

A potential customer wants a fence to survive the Winter, similar to their neighbor’s fence. Unfortunately, the neighbor’s fence didn’t come through too great either. 4′ high, wood and wire fence still buried under snow. At least 3′ of snow is still on/above its 4×4 top rail.

Maybe by June the snow will be off the fence?

Hey Mom, It’s Your Day

That’s right moms, it’s your day. Actually, you have the whole weekend to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Celebrated in both ancient Greece and Rome.
Made into a national holiday in 1914 (which President really loved his Mamma – Woodrow Wilson.)
And traditionally, more money is spent for gifts on Mother’s Day than Father’s Day (not only does Mom’s Day come earlier on the calendar, but moms also get better gifts!)

Let’s celebrate our moms this weekend. Get some flowers or even a more personal gift, like a picture frame with an image only a mom could love. Ours.

Weekend Trifecta

There’s a lot going on:

Cinco de Mayo, which dates back to 1862, when Mexico drove out the French in the battle of Puebla.

The running of the Kentucky Derby, which was started in 1875. Moreover, it’s the 50th anniversary of Secretariat winning (1973.) Still the fastest time!

And it’s the 62nd anniversary of the 1st American in space, Alan Shepard in 1961.

It’s a weekend trifecta! We’ll celebrate that. And whatever you’re celebrating, be safe out there.

That Time of Year Again

It’s that time of year again when Tahoe’s wait times for scheduling estimates and job installations start to get longer and longer. Due mainly to improving weather conditions and increased access to more of the areas where we work.

We look forward to working with you. But please be patient. We setup our estimate schedule by grouping an area’s calls together, to be more efficient. And we may not be in the same place making calls for a bit depending on the volume we have in other areas.

It was a record year for snow amounts all over our area. While the snow has melted in some places, and is melting in others, it’s still piled up elsewhere and continuing to be an issue . . . limited access, saturated soil, continuing runoff, and POTHOLES!

Keep It Rolling

Like the song “The Train Kept A-Rollin,” Tahoe’s crews are busy busting out the fence installs this season.

Just finished a big job out in Fernley with both new, chain link fence installation and some repair/refurbishment of existing fences and gates.

The project was partially located near railroad tracks. Not only was PPE required for the railroad, but the fence lines had to be a certain minimum distance from the tracks to maintain the required easement. And under the watchful eye of a railroad safety officer/inspector.

When you hear those special service announcements about staying away from train tracts, listen! Isn’t anything to mess with.

Fortunately, our crews didn’t have any “Stand By Me” incidents.

We’ve Got Some Spring In Our Step!

The days are growing longer, the temperature is rising, and things are starting to bloom. One of the most exciting aspects is the return of greenery. Roses have begun to peek out from our flower beds and the greenhouse is all ready to go!

Spring is also filled with special days. This includes Easter, Earth Day, Mother’s Day, and Memorial Day. With even sunnier evenings, most find themselves lounging outdoors. This is the season of home and backyard renovations.

Tahoe Fence is spending our Easter with the best Peeps. We send our best wishes from our family to yours during this festive time.

Repair or Replace

The storms that have been pummeling our area this Winter have also wreaked havoc on people’s personal property. The combination of wind and snow has damaged many area fences.

This brings up the question of whether a damaged fence should be repaired or replaced. There are a few things to consider, such as the condition and age of materials, and aesthetics. If it’s an older fence made of wood or PVC, is the material severely weathered (cracked, split, faded?) Will it hold fasteners securely? If it’s only necessary to replace part of the damage, how will any new material look with the existing pieces that remain?

If you’re still not sure if your fence needs some repair or a complete replacement, consider the cost of each. Is it beneficial and cost effective to fix the damage? Or is money, time, and labor better allocated in building new?

Still unsure? A simple rule: If it’s still standing, it’s usually repairable. If it’s on the ground, start new.

Spring?

The calendar says it. Dare we believe it?
Still plenty of snow around the Lake. “Skiing through Summer,” they say!

But the sun is out. Snow’s melting in the lower elevations. Does make you want to bask in the sun’s warmth and light by a doorway or window.

For centuries, different cultures have all believed in the positive attributes of Spring. Throwing open the doors and windows to let the fresh air liven our closed homes after Winter.

We’ll celebrate that. Here’s to all the hope that Spring brings.
