Seasonal Security It should go without saying that there are some unique challenges to where we live. There's lots of sun and hot temps in the summer. And the possibility of snow, lots of it, in the winter. Because of this, outside construction can be difficult. Take fencing and gates (Tahoe's specialties) for example. Fences and gates are created to keep things in or out and provide access. But our area comes with seasonal security. What works in the summer, like an automated driveway gate, may not work in the winter. Solar operators need the solar panels cleared of snow. And panels may need to be adjusted to the angle of the sun to maximize winter daylight. And it should be obvious that gates need their path of travel cleared of snow and ice to open and close correctly. Automated gates are not snowplows. Even though we have all tried to use them to move snow at one time or another. Surely, we were only doing a force-limit switch test of the operator for safety purposes, and not trying to cheat shoveling out the gate! And battery backup power is important. Automated gates won't move if cleared of snow and ice in a power outage without it.
