Big Day

Big Day This weekend there's the big game on Sunday. And then on Tuesday, you have another big day, Valentine's. So remember to show the ones you love that you care (nothing says caring like wrapping someone in security with a new fence, if you need any ideas!) It's as simple as sending a text, calling someone on the phone, or even visiting in person. For that someone special, your simple act could be a big deal. Seasonal Security

Seasonal Security

It should go without saying that there are some unique challenges to where we live. There's lots of sun and hot temps in the summer. And the possibility of snow, lots of it, in the winter.

Because of this, outside construction can be difficult. Take fencing and gates (Tahoe's specialties) for example. Fences and gates are created to keep things in or out and provide access. But our area comes with seasonal security.

What works in the summer, like an automated driveway gate, may not work in the winter. Solar operators need the solar panels cleared of snow. And panels may need to be adjusted to the angle of the sun to maximize winter daylight. And it should be obvious that gates need their path of travel cleared of snow and ice to open and close correctly.

Automated gates are not snowplows. Even though we have all tried to use them to move snow at one time or another. Surely, we were only doing a force-limit switch test of the operator for safety purposes, and not trying to cheat shoveling out the gate!

And battery backup power is important. Automated gates won't move if cleared of snow and ice in a power outage without it.

Pictured: Tahoe Fence installed pedestrian gate with access control at Incline Village (Washoe County.) 6' high, double-sided dogear cedar with 5" square, high strength steel posts with internal conduits, a screened iron gate with self-closing hinges, and access controls. A Tahoe shout out and thank you to Awaxx Systems, Cruz Construction, Reno Iron Works, and Western States Iron.

Hopefully, the fence line will be cleared adjacent to the walk gate. A snow staircase bypassing the access controls of the pedestrian gate could be another seasonal security issue!Seasonal Security

Different Ways to Work and Play in the Snow

Different Ways to Work and Play in the Snow

Everyone is different. Some like it hot, while others like it cold.
Tahoe's crews are no different.

Before the next storm arrives, we had a crew working at Palisades Tahoe (formerly Squaw Valley.) At first, they weren't thrilled about the prospect of working in so much snow. But there are different ways to work and play in the snow.

Tahoe's crew soon warmed to the idea of building screened storage cages INSIDE!

The Sun Is Out

The Sun Is Out

Even though we're running out of space to put snow, more tree limbs have come down than we can count, and we can't feel our fingers and toes, finally the sun is out.

Feeling warmer already.

Stay safe and warm out there.

And if you need firewood, Tahoe Fence has some up for grabs outside our yard. Take what you need (leave the wire bins.) Please don't make a mess.

Snow + Wind = ?

Snow + Wind = ?

Snow + wind = winter wire. Chain link fencing where the snow freezes to the material. It's a similar principle to placing your tongue on a metal pole when it's freezing out (Don't try it! Just trust us and reference "A Christmas Story" if you need more information).

Snow + wind = fence repairs also. The increased load from the weight of the snow and force of the wind can buckle even the stoutest of builds. If this is a concern for you, please contact us. Tahoe Fence provides free estimates whether you want to reinforce an existing fence or already need to repair one.

Fitting Snowman

Fitting Snowman

Even after a day of rain, there's still snow and more snow.

So to enjoy this Winter miracle, Tahoe has recreated our fitting snowman from the comfort of our warm and dry shop.

Tahoe's chain link fitting snowman is built on a post plate. Two large diameter brace bands make the body. A tension band is the head. Gate rod cut-offs finish the hat and arms. And rail-end tabs are the mittens. And it's all from used, reclaimed, or scrap material.

Boss disclaimer: No new material was harmed in the creation of this snowman!Fitting Snowman

New Year. New Opportunities.

New Year. New Opportunities.

This week marks the end of 2022. And already next week is the new year, 2023.

A new year means new opportunities. Learning from our mistakes from growing another year wiser. And trying to remember to write 2023 and not 2022!

For Tahoe Fence, it will be our 49th year in business. We thank all of our employees, customers, and families for all their help for the success through the years.

Even though the weather looks like it will be cold and wet to start the new year, Tahoe is working to get a running start this next year. One project we are working on is with some area schools to close off potential problem areas and increase safety.
Our shop is busy fabricating various chain link panels for our crews to fit and install on site.

Cheers to a safe and prosperous new year and opportunities!

Enjoy the Sweetness of the Holidays

Enjoy the Sweetness of the Holidays

The holidays are here. Make sure you take some time to enjoy them.

Marvel at some of the Christmas decorations around the area. The Capitol in downtown Carson went all out.

Sing along with some of your favorite holiday music.

Wonder at how beautiful the landscape looks with just a bit of snow.

And remember those who are important to you and make the holidays so sweet.

Merry Christmas. Happy Holidays. May you share the sweetest of memories this season.

Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown

Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown

Did you know that "A Charlie Brown Christmas," the 1st animated special for the comic strip aired on this date back in 1965?

Not too bad for the old "Peanuts" strip.

Even though it's no longer baseball season, Tahoe's crews battled some Winter weather to complete this backstop in Douglas County.
The backstop is chain link about 15' high, with a 6' high, overhang in Dresslerville.

Think Charlie Brown and the gang would be proud to play baseball here during any season.Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown
